A newly married engineer residing in Chennai contracted the most popular thing of 2020 – The cannibalistic Corona. To be precautious he got himself admitted to an isolation ward. On day 5 of this of his isolation he got a call that his young bride had hung herself from their bedroom fan (real life incident). No all your guesses are wrong she was not tested positive, she was not depressed. The only thing that engulfed her was the fear of the possibility of the virus affecting her which was more powerful than her love for life or survival instincts.
So, what was she scared of! I truly believe she herself did not know what she had to be scared of!!
They say that about *98%* of humans are sadists. When we see an accident, we are more bothered about how it happened and extent of casualties, rather than the first impulse of helping.
When we are watching soaps (tele-serials) we enjoy the saas-bahu (Mother-in-law & Daughter-in-law) conflicts or family feud ones, the one where villi or villain is being more evil than the others, we are thrilled by the extremely complicated human behaviours in those soaps and in the end (which usually never occurs for years) we wait to see how it all pans out, spending hours vegging out on these scripted dramas. *These days News is more scripted than the soaps*.
Recently learned Sanskrit professor explained the word – *“अभयम्”* (abhayam)* from the verses of an historic epic. Simple translation of this means – *“fearlessness”*. He explained this single word for over ten minutes. In summary, the fear and thoughts of the future and the past is what predominantly determines our today. We live in constant fear looking behind or looking ahead but we rarely look at the today we have. We are always entrapped in this prison with chains of our own making and refuse to free ourself with the key that we already have.
Vethathiri Maharishi in his many poems and verses has spoken about the need to accept and tune in to nature. As we introspect and we analyse the situation, we understand the reasoning and will accept the situation.
Nature’s intensity cannot be predicted, human capacity to panic has become predictable. This is now used and misused by one and all commensurably. While media and especially televisions make sure that the panic level is maintained at a particular level (which they decide) and they ensure that it does not drop below the mark, people react to this as expected and at times far beyond logical behaviours.
Instead of holding on to this uncertainty and spreading our insecurities to people around, can we not try to change our perspective. Following some fundamental steps of not so commonly used common sense :
- Analyse the situation
- Segregate the controllable and uncontrollable
- What can be done to help self?
- What can be done to help others? Words, actions, thoughts, materials etc
Breaking the monotony of life at times becomes more important than what is disrupting it ? Covid has created a new monotony. Let us stop fearing the known and unknown cyclones in life that may or may not wreck us. Instead of gluing ourselves to the idiot box and intently listening and performing a post-mortem of every piece of information, learn to separate the exaggeration.
*Break your monotony in a grand elegant way celebrating who you are* – *A Homosapien evolved with the one and only “Magnificent Sixth Sense”*.
Mediation has helped me keep my balance, to handle situations with calmness . Why don't you try it?
