Fasting is a natural treatment to cure and also to prevent several kind of diseases, misfunctions and disorders of the physical body. Also it is good for the mind. We are drawing energy from food, air and universal fields. After complete digestion of a food, there should be some rest to the stomach at least for one hour. Only in that time, the body is able to attract more energy from the atmosphere and the universal magnetic field.
Generally, many people don’t give rest to the stomach after the last food and before the next food. In this way, the stomach keeps working continuously, as in a non-stop-basis. Hence the opportunity to get energy from the above said divine sources is lost.
Fasting can be divided into 3 kinds:
To reduce the fat, complete fasting can be practiced once in a week. A spoon of lemon juice in water with little honey should be taken three to five times a day when complete fasting is observed. For diarrhea and indigestion, lemon juice and water mixed with a few drops of ginger juice will be good. Those having piles complaints should not take ginger. Use of ginger in any form will aggravate the piles.
Half fasting is also good for the fatty people, the ones suffering from diabetic and people suffering from wind in the stomach. Only one meal limited to the normal digestion should be taken. Other two times, liquids such as fruit juice or herbal tea with or without little milk or honey should be taken.
Those who suffer from ulcer in the stomach or in the intestine should not be empty at any time. The recommendation is to take half or one third or less food should be taken every time, so as to make the digestion easy. Otherwise, gas will be formed and make the ulcer worse. After complete fasting is over, heavy food or hardly digestible food like meat etc. should not be taken.
First, some fruit juice should be taken. Then, a thin paste-like cereal should be taken. Then, after getting a good appetite, normal food can be taken. Lean persons with a under-weight-body and those who are suffering from TB should not observe fasting of any kind. They should observe restrictions in taking certain kinds of foods which do not agree with their constitution and physical condition.
The spiritual qualities such as morality, duty consciousness and charity will be developed by fasting. Gradually the mind will turn inwards to understand the purpose and values of life, leading to self realization and satisfaction. In short, if fasting is understood well and practiced systematically, it works as a natural medicine to prevent and cure diseases and as a torch to enlighten spiritual life.
